HOW TO READ THIS DIAGRAM
This diagram provides a high-level overview of how business information is structured into Data and exchanged within the ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age) ecosystem. At the centre is the Data element, representing the core information exchanged between stakeholders and systems.
Above the Data element is the Data Mapping layer, supported by the Data Mapping Catalogue and the ViDA Business Information Base. Together, these define how data is mapped between systems and interpreted consistently across Member States.
On the right-hand side is the Dataset layer, which defines the information collections that must be exchanged or reported. These datasets are driven by the Digital Reporting Requirements (DRRs). Below the Data element is the Metadata layer, which describes the structure and technical characteristics of the data and is supported by metadata catalogue solutions.
Finally, the Data Representation layer defines the technical formats and syntax used for data exchange, including message structures, XML, JSON, and the AS4 profile of ebMS 3.0.
